MISSING THE HOLIDAY SEASON? TOUR THIS CHARMING BRITISH COTTAGE WITH “THE HOLIDAY” VIBES
COTTAGE TOUR Ι HISTORICAL RESTORE Ι LOCATION: OXFORDSHIRE, UK Ι INTERIOR DESIGN: STUDIO OSBORN Ι SHOP THE LOOK
During the pandemic, a lot of us have had the same fantasy, the fantasy of travel. With every month, it seems as though the luxury of travel had become more of a pipe-dream. Thank goodness it is over!
But a source that helped me sooth the traveling itch during that time was Airbnb. Scrolling through various rentals from all over the world, from the big city condos of NYC to the countryside cottages of the UK, had allowed for me to feel like the opportunity to stay in these beautiful spaces and visit these amazing places was right around the corner.
And during my searches I found some amazing spaces. Including this beautifully renovated Cotswold Cottage. Located in Oxfordshire, England, and renovated by Studio Osborn for its founder Bee Osborn, this beautiful retreat was restored to thrive in the 21st century, but not without keeping its historic charm in tact.
KITCHEN DESIGN
Bee and her team made sure to keep as much of the existing cottage as they could. The original wood panelled ceiling and exposed brick-stone in the dining room guide the overall interior design of the space. The originality gives the cottage a charm that no instalment or piece of furniture can provide.
The flooring that they choose, a light grey-beige wood, is soft and subtle, with the intent of focusing the eye to the exposed ceiling. Adding large framed windows to the kitchen helps the space feel opened up.
Building wood shelving in lieu of kitchen cabinetry is another way Bee kept the space feeling open, while also staying on theme with the rest of the main living area. White counters, light furnishing and modern appliances finish the kitchen off.
THE DINING
The dining area, tucked off of the kitchen by a few steps, includes a gorgeous wicker chandelier that almost camouflages to the colour of the walls and ceiling. A custom seating bench wraps around one side of the original wood table, accessorized with 5 matching white dining chairs.
The original wood dining table beautifully compliments the tones of the rest of the home, but adds character of its own with its natural dark markings.
This space has such an intimate setting. The coastal vibes are much needed during those cold British winters.
IMPERFECT PERFECTION
The majority of the interior doors are original to the cottage, some with more blemishes than others. Below, one of the doors, painted in stark white.

A BRITISH WELCOME
You can feel the warmth and coziness of the space as soon as you walk in.The entryway consists of white panelled walls, a wood painted door and herringbone brick flooring, which all seem to be original to the home. Bee and her team seem to have consciously kept as much of the original structure as they could, which is why there is such charm and character throughout.
And the additional decor used is kept minimal. A built-in seating bench, with a wicker storage chest underneath, all blend in to complete the space.
SIT AND RELAX
One of two seating areas sits off of the main living. A large sectional, with a built-in wood storage base, is seen across a creme vintage cabinet. Completing the space, an off-white pouf (used as a table) and wicker rug.
The main living space sits right off of the front entry of the cottage. An original fireplace, surrounded by exposed brick and stone walls, is clearly the focal point of the space. Off of one of the stone walls is built-in firewood storage slot.
The living space itself continues with the monochromatic theme of the rest of the cottage. Bee and her team ensured that every room in this space paid homage to the originality of the cottage, and did not feel too modern or flashy.
The second seating area differs from the rest of the space. Though the furnishings remain consistent in their monochromatic themes, the dark navy walls give the space a modern twist.
This charmer is definitely on my list for AirBNB’s to stay in, and Studio Osborne is one of my favourite designers of the moment. Check out other projects from this studio https://www.studio-osborn.com/
